JUL 4 from 10 a.m. to Dusk – Independence Day Celebration at Mason, Mich.  Activities start with the County Seat Old Car Club Car Show on the Ingham County Courthouse Square from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Evening Parade through the Downtown (from/to Mason High School) steps off at 7:30 p.m.  Twilight Fireworks at the Ingham County Fairgrounds will be hosted by the Mason Fire Department and the Mason Lions Club.

JUL 10 from 1 to 9:30 p.m.Tiger Baseball Game Outing hosted by Holt Christian Church.  A busload of Tiger fans will board at HCC, 2424 S. Washington Rd. EPL schedule updatesJUL 13 thru 17 – On Goal Soccer Camp at Nancy Moore Park, 1960 Gaylord C. Smith Ct., Okemos, Mich.  Registration begins on Monday, May 3.  This is a unique soccer camp designed to provide fun and positive soccer training for players of all skill levels entering K through 8th grade in the fall.  Through individual and team training, players improve their fundamental skills and apply what they learn through small-sided games as well as the Mini World Cup Competition, emphasizing team play and good sportsmanship.  Qualified Christian coaches from teams and universities around the world will be great role models, providing excellent training and meaningful lessons from the Bible.  Come celebrate On Goal's 25th year of sharing their love of soccer and Christ with participates.  Your kids will be begging to come back next year!  For more information call (517) 349-2830 or visit www.ongoal.org online.

JUL 20 thru 22 – Ag Expo 2010 on Michigan State University Campus at Mt. steam10JUL 30 thru Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to Dusk – 52nd Annual Michigan Steam Engine & Threshers Club Reunion southeast of Mason, Mich., on the east side of US-127 at Barnes Road.  Early steam engines will be powering a sawmill.  There will be lots of antique engines as well as a flea market for antique engine parts.  Don’t miss the blast of steam engine whistles at Noon and the daily parade of old tractors at 4 p.m.

AUG 19 at 5 p.m.Putt for a Purpose - Christian Services/Love INC at The Little Hawk Putting Course, 15101 S. AUG 21 – Mason Aviation Day at Mason Jewett Airport (Eden Road at Kipp Road, south of the Ingham County Fairgrounds), Mason, Mich.  Pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.; grilled steak lunch from Noon to 4:30 p.m. (pork BBQ, hot dogs & brats also available).  Homebuilt aircraft, classic aircraft and military aircraft will be on display with helicopter rides available.  FREE admission to Mason Jewett Airport.  Hosted by Experimental Aircraft Assn. OCT 8 thru 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.30th annual Color Cruise and Island Festival will take place on historic Island Park and in downtown Grand Ledge, Mich.  A wonderful 3-day event in early October celebrating Michigan’s wonderful fall colors and fall fun activities.  Admission is $3 for adults (seniors $2 Friday only), $1 for children and is good for all three days.  Visitors will be able to see demonstrations of black kettle caramel corn, apple cider pressing, blacksmithing, weaving, spinning, wood carving and other old time activities.  Visit a fur trader encampment, take a covered wagon or boat ride, enjoy good food and live entertainment.  Children can visit the petting zoo, paint a pumpkin or dip a candle for a small fee.  See the fall colors and 60-foot sandstone ledges along the Grand River from the Princess Laura riverboat or rent a canoe.  Riverboat rides are $8 for adults and $3 for children.  If you want to learn more about the history of the ledges and the Grand River, join Eaton County Parks Naturalist Jackie Blanc for a boat ride down the river and walk back along the Ledges River Path to the Island on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.  The Museum of the Grand Ledge Area Historical Society will be open each day from Noon to 4 p.m.  The Capital City Old Car Club is sponsoring a car show on S. OCT 9 starting at 10 or 11 a.m.24th Annual Family Bicycle Color Tour with two different tour routes; advanced registration is recommended.  Route One leaves from Fitzgerald Park (½-mile west of downtown Grand Ledge) at 10 a.m. and travels to the Country Mill on Otto Road; this is a 12-mile, one-way ride or a 24-mile, round trip ride.  Route Two departs from Fox Park (about 1 mile northwest of Potterville) at 11 a.m.; this is a 4-mile, round trip ride to the Country Mill.  Cost for the Fitzgerald Park ride is $3 per adult, $2 per child (12 and under) or $8 per family.  Cost for the Fox Park ride is $2 per person or $8 per family.  Program fee will be collected on site and exact change is appreciated.  You may wish to bring additional money to purchase items at the Country Mill.  To register please send an email to parksdept@eatoncounty.org with your name, phone number, number of adults and children in your party, and preferred route.  You may also register by calling the park office at (517) 627-7351; for Color Tour Flyer Click Here or Route Map Click Here (both are printable PDF format).

OCT 11 from Noon to 5 p.m. – Pioneer Day at the Waterloo Farm Museum, 9998 Waterloo-Munith Rd. (corner of Schumacher Road), Grass Lake, Mich.  A celebration of late 19th century farm life which includes tours of the Farm Museum and the Dewey School.  There will be live music as well as demonstrations of crafts, trades and traditional cooking methods.  A visit to the Museum – a complex of farm buildings, including the restored ten-room Farmhouse dating from 1855 – will start in the Farmhouse kitchen where you will be greeted by the delicious smells of Sunday dinner being readied for the dining room table.  A docent in every room will be your guide as you tour the house set with utensils, furniture, clothing and other household items of the time.  There will demonstrations of butter making in the Spring House, hearth cooking in the Log House, brick-oven baking in the Bake House, and blacksmithing in the workshop.  There will also be demonstrations of traditional tasks like spinning, dressmaking, weaving and quilting; Exhibits of farm tools used for chores such as corn husking and shelling, cider pressing and sauerkraut making.  Additional activities will include stilt-walking, outdoor games, musicians playing, horse-drawn wagon rides, craftsmen demonstrating as well as selling their wares, and farm goods, jams, preserves, apple butter, delicious snacks and treats for sale.  Admission to the Waterloo Farm Museum grounds for this event is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors (62+) and $2 for children aged 5-17.  For more information call (517) 763-6409, email roarkaiser@yahoo.com or visit www.waterloofarmmuseum.org online.

The Jingle Ball logo NOV 20 from 7 to 11 p.m.The Jingle Ball at the Michigan Historical Museum, 702 West Kalamazoo St., Lansing, Mich.  This is a premier holiday event held the night after “Silver Bells in the City” kicks off the holiday season for mid-Michigan.  The Jingle Ball raises funds every year which help 80,000 children discover Michigan history.  Black tie is encouraged.  Highlights include: Valet parking and a luxurious red carpet that leads you and your friends into a world of holiday elegance; musical entertainment, an array of sumptuous hors d'oeuvres and beverages; and the presentation of the 2010 Odyssey Awards, honoring exceptional Michigan history educators.  Funds raised from the Jingle Ball are used to expand award-winning education programs at the Michigan Historical Museum through the Michigan History Education Fund.  The Michigan Historical Museum – flagship of the Michigan Historical Museum System – is located inside the Michigan Library and Historical Center.  The museum and visitor parking are on the north side of Kalamazoo Street, two blocks east of M.
