JAN 3 at 6:30 p.m. – Lansing Area Weight Loss Challenge 2012 evening kickoff at the Fountain of Wellness Nutrition Club in Lansing’s Frandor Area, 535 N. JAN 7 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. – Free “Healthy Breakfast” Sampler at the Fountain of Wellness, 535 N. Clippert St., Lansing, Mich. Lansing for HaitiJAN 7 starting at 2 p.m. – Lansing for Haiti 5K Run/Walk at Great Lakes Christian College, 6211 W. Willow Hwy., Lansing, Mich.  "Lansing for Haiti" is a group of Lansing area churches who have partnered with the communities of Leogane and Cite' Soleil, Haiti, two of the poorest and hardest hit areas of the Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake.  Our annual 5K commemorates the earthquake's anniversary.  Proceeds provide Agri-Business micro-loans, small loans lent to farmers, helping them to grow their farming business and escape extreme poverty.  Our project is facilitated by the non-profit agency, World Relief.  Prizes will be given to overall male and female winners, male and female master's winners (age 40+), and the top 3 in each age group.  Everyone gets a long-sleeve race t-shirt.  Race day registration, check-in & packet pick-up will begin at Noon.  Fees: $25 pre-registration; $30 race day.  For more information email info@lansingforhaiti.com or visit www.lansingforhaiti.com online.

JAN 7 at 6:30 p.m.Community Euchre Night in the Nutrition Education Center of the Fountain of Wellness, 535 N. JAN 12 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. – Prostate Cancer Education Forum at Sparrow Hospital’s St. Lawrence Campus, 1210 W. Saginaw, Lansing, Mich.  As a pre-Holiday Observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Capital Area United Way, Sparrow Cancer Center, UAW Local 4911, the A. Philip Randolph Institute, the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, Black Men Incorporated of Greater Lansing, GLAAHI and the Prostate Cancer Support Group of Mid Michigan, have joined together to inform citizens of the Greater Lansing Area about prostate cancer, especially African American men who seem to suffer particularly from this disease.  Admission is free and it is open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.  There will also be prostate cancer literature and other health materials on display for the taking.  Registration is required.  The forum will feature an internist, a radiation oncologist and a urologist, as well as prostate cancer survivors.  Attendees will leave with an increased awareness about the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, nutrition and making an informed decision.  Call 517.203.5022 for more information or to reserve a seat.
